Shah Rukh Khan makes a surprise appearance in Ed Sheeran’s “Sapphire” music video

Shah Rukh Khan makes a surprise appearance in Ed Sheeran’s latest music video “Sapphire.

In an unlikely collaboration that nobody anticipated but everyone is now fawning over, Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan made an unexpected cameo in Ed Sheeran’s most recent music video “Sapphire.” Yes, you read that correctly. The King of Romance and the Prince of Pop have teamed up, and fans around the world are going insane.

In the clip, which also features Arijit Singh on vocals, we see not just a worldwide music collaboration but a Bollywood cameo that caught everyone off guard. In a new behind-the-scenes (BTS) video that was recently shared on YouTube, Ed Sheeran himself explains how the acting legend came to appear on the track.

In the video, Ed walks fans through his travels through India, mentioning how he visited Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai to film different parts of Sapphire. But it was his meeting with Shah Rukh Khan in Mumbai that stood out.

“Sapphire” is the third single from Ed Sheeran’s forthcoming album, Play, which is set to be released on September 12, 2025.

“Sapphire” represents Sheeran’s first ever collaboration with Indian playback legend Arijit Singh, and combines influences from Punjabi and Hindi with Western pop, utilizing traditional instruments like sitar and South-Asian percussion.

The director of the video was Liam Pethick, and it took place in various locations in India, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Shillong, as well as on the sets of the blockbuster Baahubali, but provided a diverse representation of Indian culture through moving images.

“Sapphire” isn’t just a song; it’s a musical fusion. Ed Sheeran recorded the track in Goa, using several local musicians to mix Western pop and Punjabi vocals. Arijit Singh’s Punjabi verse was also recorded (and a full Punjabi version will be released before long), and their relationship is part of the identity of the song.

Shah Rukh’s cameo boosts the collaboration and adds a layer of old-fashioned Indian cinema charm to its Western pop production. Critics have enjoyed the video as a sincere celebration of India’s lively culture.

At the moment, neither Ed Sheeran nor Shah Rukh Khan has disclosed any further creative ventures together. Fans are already anticipating a possible live performance, perhaps at Glastonbury or a potential India tour, and with the full Play album set for a September release, there may likely be more cross-cultural surprises in store.

One thing is for sure: this global crossover merging Punjabi, Bollywood, and pop is a positive step for artists who want to connect East to West. SRK’s cameo wasn’t just a treat for viewers – it was symbolic of friendship and a shared cultural experience.
