Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu is slammed after a doctor called her “science illiterate” for promoting a so-called supplement.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the beautiful South Indian actress famous for her glistening skin and fiery performances, is currently receiving backlash in response to her Instagram promotion of a supplement brand that claimed to contain NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide), which she claimed helped boost NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) levels – a compound connected to energy and focus.
Samantha, who is also the co-founder of the brand selling the supplement, wrote in her new controversial post, “NAD+ declines with age, resulting in lower energy, slower recovery, and diminished focus,” and stated that NMN can help reverse this.
She also commented that the supplement she was promoting had NMN that was “over 99 per cent pure.”
Nevertheless, her statements were publicly slammed by Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, who is more popularly known to social media users as The Liver Doc. Sharing a screenshot of Samantha’s post, he said, “How science illiterate movie celebrities defraud their millions of followers by selling supplements that do not work at all.”
He did no such thing and further called the supplement company a “fraud” and a warning to his followers. “Stay away from snake oil salesmen or snake oil saleswomen, they come in all shapes and sizes.
Be an informed consumer. Accept reality, science, and evidence. Listen to real doctors,” he posted in the caption of an Instagram post.
The doctor noted that NMN has been promoted as the “next big anti-ageing pill”, but when you strip away the hype and look at the data, the story falls apart quite quickly.
He further wrote, “BOTTOM LINE? If you want to age better, pay attention to the boring things that work: diet, exercise, sleep, avoiding alcohol and tobacco, and vaccination. Not a molecule that can’t even clear Phase 2 -quality evidence.
Of course, Samantha didn’t stay silent. In a separate post, the actress explained why she took the plunge and became the co-founder of the brand. “The results spoke for themselves. So I didn’t just keep taking it.
I joined the mission! I became the Co-Founder of Gataca because I believe in what we are creating. This is not about shortcuts. It’s about showing up for your future,” she said.
Samantha continued, “@gataca.in goes beyond ‘supplements.’ It’s about the future of performance and longevity, underpinned by science, driven by purpose, and built on clean, proven, purposeful products. Each product is: Third-party tested, tested for heavy metals, and tested for microbes.”
Rumors are swirling that the doctor might file a formal complaint with health authorities.
