Aamir Khan’s IPL Commentary Sparks Drama Raees Director Deletes Angry Post Saying “Gyaan Matt Baato!”

Aamir Khan’s unexpected IPL commentary left fans split – some loved the philosophical twist, others weren’t impressed.

True to form as a businessman, actor Aamir Khan understands that selling your art can often be just as important as creating art. Aamir’s next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, the sequel to Taare Zameen Par (2007), is set to be released on June 20, and in a slightly unconventional promotional tactic, Aamir did live commentary during the IPL finals match with RCB versus PBKS.

The actor joined Hindi commentators Suresh Raina and Aakash Chopra to at least offer his two cents on the biggest match of the season. However, not everything went to script.

Aamir was invited as a “special guest commentator” for the glittering cricket event, and he was very serious about it. He wore a smart blazer, looked good, and spoke not only about cricket, but life itself, philosophy, and even climate change in the gaps between overs. He explained how “a batsman’s mindset is just like a filmmaker’s vision”.

But not everyone was enjoying themselves. Most drama came from Bollywood itself – and no, not from any of the actresses, this time. It was Raees director Rahul Dholakia who seemed to have had enough of Aamir’s cricket school. In a deleted tweet, he posted:
“Yaar picture ka promotion karo gyaam mat baato. I want KOHLI to win this year and Zinta to win next year! Both these passionate people deserve to win, for their sheer persistence!”

However, as fans responded and asked how Aamir is doing anything different from what all actors do during the promotional cycle,
Within hours, the pressure got too real for Dholakia, and he deleted the tweet.

While the match was going on, Aamir, the “perfectionist”, was asked about his next film, and he was also asked who, in his opinion, were the “Sitaare Zameer Par”. Aamir said it with all honesty that he always thought of Sachin Tendulkar in that way, but at the moment, he sees Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah as “perfectionists” and “stars”.

In the meantime, Aamir said nothing, like every other real perfectionist has figured out how to keep calm in chaos. But the actor’s sources reveal that he was ‘surprised’ by the responses. “Aamir was just trying to provide some mindfulness around the game,” said a friend. “He didn’t expect people to be so touchy!”

Next time, Aamir wants to share his commentary, he should keep the commentary cricket and leave the life lessons for the movies.
