Pahlaj Nihalani blames Govinda’s downfall on astrologers and David Dhawan’s influence, calling the actor “nasamajh.”
Veteran film producer and ex-CBFC (Censor Board) chief Pahlaj Nihalani recently made several eyebrow-raising comments about Bollywood’s former adored comedy king, Govinda. Pahlaj mentioned that the actor was not only blameworthy, but poor choices, bad company, poor influencers, including some very spiritual ones, all contributed to Govinda’s downward career spiral.
Nihalani stated Govinda was “nasamajh.” He said Govinda’s one-time glorious career ended because he had made the mistake of surrounding himself with pandits and began to trust superstition more than they had given him a script.
He continued, “Govinda was a superstar. But he lost focus and, rather than listening to filmmakers and directors, started listening to pandits, and it ruined everything.”
But that’s not all! Pahlaj Nihalani even slammed director David Dhawan, who was once famous for making hits with Govinda in the 90s, like Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, and Raja Babu. Nihalani said that David “poisoned” Govinda’s mind against the people who cared about him.
He stated, “I launched Govinda. I made Govinda’s first hit. However, when he became a huge star, David Dhawan came into the picture. In slow increments, Govinda changed. He began to ignore me. David poisoned Govinda’s mind.”
That’s spicy allegations.
Govinda and David Dhawan made 17 movies together, and the majority were massive successes. Their chemistry brought priceless moments of comedy to Bollywood. One day, it all stopped.
They have an on or off relationship, a lot of misunderstandings, and plenty of egos. Now, it sounds like Pahlaj Nihalani has added masala to the already simmering pot.
Pahlaj even said Govinda’s ruin started after he stopped working with him. “When he was with me, he was disciplined. He respected time. He gave his 100%. But then he became someone else,” said Nihalani.
He also hinted that Govinda’s fascination with astrology was odd. “He used to change shooting dates, script dialogues, even film titles, just because a pandit said so.
How can you operate like that in this industry?”
Govinda, who dominated the 90s and early 2000s using his dancing, comic timing, and eye-catching attire, has had a significant decrease in the past decade with his film appearances.
He attempted a comeback with Aa Gaya Hero and FryDay, but they did not succeed. He has also found himself in the news for family feuds, departures from friendships, and spirituality.
Govinda has previously mentioned how “betrayals” and “negativity” have affected his career, but he has never specifically named anyone. Now that Pahlaj Nihalani has outright named David Dhawan and astrologers, it is clear that the behind-the-scenes drama in Govinda’s life was not scripted.
