Diljit Dosanjh finally breaks his silence on casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3
Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has finally spoken up with all the noise and anger surrounding the Pakistani actress Hania Aamir cast in his future film Sardaar Ji 3.
The outburst came after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. People were upset, and a ban was placed on Pakistani artists working on Indian projects. Because of that, Sardaar Ji 3 will not be released in India, but it will be released worldwide on June 27, thus skipping the Indian audience altogether!
That decision went over like a ton of bricks. The Netaizens lost it and called Diljit an “opportunist” and that he “betrayed national sentiment.” Some even called for him to be dropped from another film, Border 2, because he was “romancing a Pakistani actress.”
Eventually, Diljit spoke up. He explained that when the film was made, India-Pakistan relations were stable. There were no restrictions back then, everything was “good” – shooting, co-starring, ghost-hunting antics with Hania in the UK, everything was “good”.
He also replied to social media sleuths, suggesting that Hania was dropped without fans knowing! Fans saw Hania in the behind-the-scenes photos and actually confused her photo with actress Michelle Yeoh on his T-Shirt! Diljit had to clarify that it was Michelle Yeoh on the T-shirt and not Hania.
Diljit hinted at his disconnect with his and Hania’s depiction by releasing an Instagram post with the words, “Censored before release?” which hinted at bigger problems and bigger issues, and not only those with Hania but with past censorship from his past work, Punjab 95.
As anticipated, the internet is divided. Some users took to the internet, calling for the boycott of Sardaar Ji 3, saying that working with Hania so soon after such a tragedy was insensitive.
Others called it clever pr, saying that inviting Hania on stage in London would have been part of the plan, which would generate interest and headline news.
Sardaar Ji 3 is set to premiere overseas on June 27, but for fans in India they may have to wait or never get see the movie in theatres at all. Diljit has been defending his team, plot, and the timing, saying this film was done when things were okay.
Hania is still a part of the project officially, while Diljits hints like the Instagram post and BTS photos have created even more anticipation for this production.
Diljit Dosanjh’s defense is straightforward: “When we shot it, there wasn’t an issue.” But the timing of this reveal, right before the release, suggests a little strategy and a little sentiment. Whether this is a strategic PR decision or conviction, Sardaar Ji 3 is demonstrating that entertainment is never exonerated from politics.
